Guy/Girl Week!

Guys week just by the little you should know that it was an awesome time filled with great conversations that only men can have and various manly activities. The speaker Blaine Greiner was really great. The one thing that really stuck out to me about what he said was what it meant to be a man, and a man of God. How to have a relationship with God and have him as first priority. Another great thing about man week we got a chance to climb a mountain (awesome!!) Just seeing Gods creation is so amazing and to see it from on top a mountain is just another thing in itself. Beauty in a way I have never experienced before, God is surely a good God.

There couldn’t have been a better place for the girls to spend a week away. Spending time in Banff, exploring a glacier, and hiking lake Louise made a great environment for some serious girl talk and silly memories. there was some specific moments that us girls got split into groups and had to have serious conversations, but I think I speak on behalf of all the girls when I say many of the best conversations weren’t the planned or thought out ones. Our speaker Sharon left us after every session with some tough questions and conversations to be had. We discussed some of the issues that girls face on a physical level, and an emotional level. These topics seem to be brought up throughout the week when we were hiking, driving, or even getting ready for bed. It’s amazing the community that is felt when you are swimming, eating, singing, laughing, sleeping, even dancing together. For every girl it was different but I believe we all had our favorite moments (hot tubing, hair dying, nail painting, hiking, zumba dancing, shopping, exploring, farting) God really blessed us with the ability to open up more and express our feminism through the ways we participate in life. One of my favorite parts about the week was zumba dancing. We went to the local gym and met an instructor who moved and danced like Shakira. Most the girls dressed up in 80’s clothes to add a little spice to our dancing. Our instructor was so impressive with the way she could move her hips, it was pretty hard for some of us to follow along (it was very tiring) but, some of us caught on pretty easy. The zumba class made me realize how much I love dancing, and specifically dancing for Jesus. I believe there are many more forms of worship besides singing, and dancing is one of them for me. It filled me with joy to think that God created me, and all us girls, with perfect bodies even though society tells us different. It’s really a privileged to be able to explore, move, and embrace our bodies together with the physical actions we make. I believe our Father was watching us dance, so filled with joy to see his beautiful daughters exploring new ways to use our bodies. I don’t think there is anything that makes God happier than seeing his daughters come to life and fully live. I also believe Jesus was laughing with us as we all embraced the skills, or lacking skills to dance like Shakira!
